Event Description

This classic, multiple Oscar-winning musical reimagines Romeo and Juliet in its story of star-crossed love blooming during a turf war between rival street gangs in ’60s NYC.

70mm PRESENTATION!

Based on the acclaimed Broadway show by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim and brilliantly translated to the screen by veteran Robert Wise and the show’s original stage director and choreographer Jerome Robbins, West Side Story boldly reimagines Romeo and Juliet as a spectacular modern musical set on the streets of ’60s NYC. Two rival gangs, the Jets and the Sharks, are locked in a long-running turf war. When former Jet leader Tony (Richard Beymer) falls in love with Maria (Natalie Wood), the sister of the Sharks’ leader Bernardo (George Chakiris), the stage is set for a tender and tragic love story. Shot in spectacular 70mm and packed with memorable songs, terrific performances, and bravura set pieces, West Side Story was a box-office sensation and took home no less than ten Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
