Stormy Weather

4:00 pm To 6:00 pm

TIFF Bell Lightbox, King Street West, Toronto, ON, Canada

Event Description

Released at the height of World War II — when the US government’s wartime propaganda wing, the Office of War Information, was encouraging Hollywood to present a positive image of American race relations — Stormy Weather stars the great singer Lena Horne and tap-dancing legend Bill Robinson in a sprightly musical romance about longtime showbiz sweethearts who are estranged by their divergent ambitions. Featuring turns from Fats Waller, Cab Calloway, and the high-flying dance duo the Nicholas Brothers, Stormy Weather is a thrilling retrospective of some of the most renowned African American performers of the first half of the 20th century.
