If glamour was her stock in trade, then stock prices were soaring in 1932—the year Dietrich’s white-hot scorcher BLONDE VENUS was released. Arousing, sensational, and provocative, Marlene Dietrich is the definition of a screen legend. LADIES of BURLESQUE is proud to bring you one of her most iconic (and notorious) films, with a live Dietrich-inspired performance by Bianca Boom Boom!
In BLONDE VENUS Dietrich plays Helen Ferguson, a former German cabaret star and now wife and mother living abroad. When her scientist husband (Herbert Marshall) falls ill from radium poisoning, Helen must return to the stage to cover the mounting medical expenses. Realizing her pay is not enough to save him, she submits to the advances of the dashing and rich Nick Townsend, played by a newly-minted Cary Grant in the role that made him a star. With its sex, sin, and scandal—much of which taking place in a New Orleans bordello—BLONDE VENUS is the ultimate Pre-Code film!
